Ueckermünde is a small port town on the Stettiner Haff in what was then the Prussian province of Pomerania. Like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, the Magistrat issued its own Notgeld to cover the chronic shortage of small change that persisted long after the armistice — the Reichsbank simply could not keep fractional coinage in circulation fast enough to meet demand.
Gebrüder Parcus in Munich printed a substantial portion of the southern and regional German Notgeld market during this period, producing runs for municipalities far outside Bavaria. The firm was known for clean lithographic work on short-run civic issues.
