Vereinigte Spiegel Fabriken — United Mirror Factories — was one of the dominant forces in Fürth's glass and mirror industry, a trade the Bavarian city had monopolized since the 16th century. This zinc notgeld piece dates to the post-WWI emergency currency period, when metal shortages and economic disruption forced private firms and municipalities alike to issue their own small-denomination tokens to keep commerce moving. Zinc was the pragmatic choice: abundant, cheap, and already familiar to industrial operations like mirror silvering.
