Bevern is a small village in Lower Saxony, and its 1921 notgeld issue reflects the hyperinflationary pressure on German municipal administrations to self-supply small change when Reichsbank coin had effectively vanished from circulation. Konrad Hanf of Hamburg handled a significant volume of municipal emergency paper during this period, producing runs for dozens of minor Gemeinden across northern Germany — workmanlike output, not prestige printing.
The Amtsbezirk designation matters: Bevern was issuing under district administrative authority, not as an independent town, which occasionally complicates attribution in collections where the parent Amt is misidentified as the issuer.
