Badbergen is a small parish community in Lower Saxony, and this 1921 notgeld issue belongs to the enormous wave of municipal emergency currency that flooded Germany during the postwar inflation spiral. Paal's Druckerei in Osnabrück handled printing for numerous small Niedersachsen communities that lacked access to larger Frankfurt or Berlin printers — a practical regional arrangement that gives this and similar issues a distinct typographic consistency across the area.
The 25 Pfennig denomination was among the most commonly requested by issuing municipalities, sized to cover everyday transactions as federal coinage disappeared from circulation through hoarding and melting.
