Roßla am Kyffhäuser is a small locality in the foothills below the Kyffhäuser ridge in Thuringia, and this note is a product of the German Notgeld wave of 1921 — the second, more speculative phase, when municipalities increasingly issued small-denomination emergency scrip not out of genuine coin shortage but because collectors were buying them. The Ratsdruckerei R. Dulce in Glauchau handled a number of these regional commissions out of Saxony.
Georg Schleinitz as named designer suggests a locally commissioned artwork rather than a stock design — a distinction that separates the more considered Notgeld issues from purely formulaic printings.
