Castrop's 1921 charity bazaar note is among the more unusual applications of the Notgeld phenomenon — issued not to relieve a coin shortage in commerce but to fund a municipal charitable event directly. The face value functioned essentially as a admission or purchase token, with redemption tied to the bazaar itself rather than to any ongoing circulating obligation.
