Patterns struck for Wilhelm II's proposed coinage reforms rarely made it past the trial stage, and this 1909 piece is no exception — the 25 Pfennig denomination was never adopted for circulation, leaving Schaaf-catalogued specimens as the only evidence the denomination was seriously considered at all. The reference number G42 places it within a specific group of silver trials submitted during a period when the Imperial treasury was weighing whether to restructure the subsidiary coinage system.
