25 Pfennig - Wilhelm II Pattern

Pattern coinage from the German Imperial period rarely surfaces with clean provenance, and this 1908 copper-nickel piece is no exception. The 25 Pfennig denomination was never adopted for circulation under Wilhelm II — the approved series ran 1, 2, 5, 10, and 25 Pfennig in nickel and iron, but proposals for revised denominations were floated repeatedly in the years before WWI as the Reichsbank wrestled with coin-hoarding behavior among the public.

Pattern status means this piece bypassed the Reichsmünzamt approval chain entirely.
