Comments

Glatz was a predominantly German-speaking Silesian town that would not pass to Poland until 1945, so the Schirmer imprint reflects entirely local production — a small printer serving a municipal savings bank during the hyperinflationary pressures that made Notgeld ubiquitous across Germany in 1921. Städtische Sparkasse Glatz was one of dozens of civic institutions that issued fractional emergency notes simply because Reichsbank coinage had effectively vanished from everyday commerce.

L. Schirmer's output for this series is workmanlike rather than artistically ambitious — nothing like the elaborate collector-targeted Notgeld issued elsewhere that same year.
