The denomination '25 Pfennig' appears in bold Gothic lettering in the upper left and upper right corners against white panels. Lichtenhorst was a German prisoner-of-war camp in Lower Saxony, operational during World War I. Like most German POW camps of the period, it issued its own internal scrip to prevent regular Reichsmark currency from circulating among prisoners — partly to limit escape-funding, partly to maintain internal accounting. These camp canteen notes had no value outside the wire.
The DeNG reference encompasses multiple variants, and collector differentiation typically hinges on minor typographic details or paper stock differences rather than any meaningful reissue event. Genuine examples are scarce simply because most were withdrawn and destroyed when camps closed.
