Stolzenau an der Weser was a small market town in Lower Saxony, and its Kreis-Handwerkerbund — the district artisans' association — was precisely the kind of local trades body that stepped in during the 1921 small-change crisis when Reichsbank coin simply vanished from everyday commerce. The backing institution, the Spar- und Creditbank GmbH, gave the issue a degree of formal financial grounding unusual for notgeld of this type, distinguishing it from purely municipal or merchant-consortium scrip.

The P#1277 reference covers at least three face varieties within this issue.
