Körlin an der Persante — today Karlino in northwestern Poland — was one of hundreds of small Pomeranian towns that issued Notgeld during the postwar currency chaos of 1919–1921. The Magistrat commissioned these from Selmar Bayer, a Berlin printer active in the Notgeld trade whose output for small municipalities was prolific and workmanlike. Bayer's address, SO 36, places the firm in the Kreuzberg district, a hub for commercial print shops of that period.
The K38.1c designation within the Grabowski catalog indicates a variant within the series — likely a color, paper stock, or overprint difference from sibling types K38.1a and K38.1b.
