A Notgeld piece from J. Bollow, a Hamburg merchant or business concern that issued emergency small-change scrip during the acute coin shortage years of 1917–1921. Tens of thousands of German firms, municipalities, and institutions printed their own fractional notes during this period, and the vast majority were redeemed and pulped — private commercial issuers like this one rarely kept records, and surviving examples often exist in single digits.
No issuing date has been firmly established for this piece.
