| Reverse description | An outer beaded rim borders the entire field, within which the circular legend KLEINGELDERSATZMARKE (meaning 'small change substitute token') runs between the beaded rim and an inner rope-twisted circle. At the base of the legend, three five-pointed stars serve as separators. The large numeral '25', denoting the face value of 25 Pfennig, is boldly struck in the centre of the field, enclosed within the rope circle. |

Greifswald issued this iron notgeld piece in 1917 as wartime metal requisitions stripped municipal coffers of copper and nickel. Germany's Kriegsmetall decrees had by that point redirected virtually all non-ferrous coinage metal to ordnance production, forcing hundreds of German municipalities to strike emergency coinage in whatever base ferrous stock remained available. Iron corrodes readily in circulation, which is why survivors in decent condition are consistently harder to find than the mintage figures alone would suggest.
