Opmerkingen

The Deutsche Amerika-Woche — German-America Week — was an annual cultural and commercial event cultivated by German cities with strong transatlantic trade ties, and Bremen, as the principal port of emigration to North America for decades, had more stake in it than most. The Weser-Gilde was a merchants' association rooted in that maritime commerce, and this 25 Pfennig emergency note was almost certainly issued as promotional scrip tied to the event rather than as genuine circulating currency — a Notgeld issued for collectors as much as for transactions.

1923 puts it squarely in the hyperinflationary period, when such small pfennig denominations were already economically absurd. H.M. Hauschild was a Bremen publisher of local historical and cultural material, an unusual choice for a currency printer — which underscores the commemorative character of the issue.
