| 背面描述 | A beaded border encircles the entire design. The large bold numeral 25 dominates the central field, rendered in a bold serif typeface. The circular legend KRIEGSGELD, separated by a small decorative six-pointed star ornament on each side, arcs across the upper portion of the coin, while the denomination inscription PFENNIG curves along the lower portion of the coin, also flanked by matching star ornaments, completing the encircling legend. |

Burgsteinfurt's 1917 zinc notgeld issue was a direct consequence of wartime metal requisitions that stripped German municipalities of their copper and nickel supplies for shell casings and military hardware. Cities across the Westphalian region were left scrambling to keep small change in circulation, and zinc — an inferior, corrosion-prone substitute — became the material of last resort. Burgsteinfurt, a small administrative town in Münsterland, had no mint of its own; these pieces were produced under municipal authorization through contracted private minting.
The .2 suffix in the Funck and Menzel references indicates a recognized die variety, distinguishing this piece from at least one other emission of the same type.
