Anhalt issued iron notgeld coinage during World War I as copper and nickel were redirected to war production — a supply crisis that pushed dozens of German federal states and municipalities into emergency issues. Anhalt's 25 Pfennig piece falls into this wartime series, struck in iron as a direct consequence of the 1916 metal requisitions that stripped conventional coinage from circulation almost overnight.
