Glogau's Notgeld issues came out of the same postwar chaos that flooded Germany with emergency municipal scrip between 1919 and 1922, when chronic small-coin shortages left cities and towns printing their own fractional currency simply to make change. Carl Flemming AG, the printing firm that produced this note, was actually headquartered in Glogau itself — an unusual circumstance where the issuing city and the printer were effectively neighbors, which likely accelerated both production and local distribution.
Flemming had a long background in cartographic and commercial printing before pivoting to Notgeld work during this period.
