Gutsgeld — estate money — issued by private landowners during the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany in the final year of the First World War. The Herrschaft Racot was a landed estate in the Poznań region, then part of the Prussian province of Posen. These notes circulated among estate workers and local tradespeople as a purely practical substitute for Reichsmünzen that had long since disappeared from everyday commerce into hoarding and metal requisitions.
Within a year of issue, the armistice and the subsequent transfer of the Posen region to the newly reconstituted Polish state rendered this Gutsgeld worthless on both sides of the new border.
