| Description de l’avers | The obverse is printed in dark brown on a pale yellow guilloche underprint composed of repeating rosette and scroll patterns framing the entire field. A large vignette at centre depicts a harbour gantry crane standing over water, rendered in bold woodcut style. Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf was a small industrial commune on the western shore of Kiel Fjord — home to shipyard workers and factory hands, not a banking center. Like hundreds of German municipalities in 1917–1921, it issued its own Notgeld when the Reichsbank could no longer keep small-denomination coin in circulation, wartime metal requisitions having stripped the economy of copper and nickel down to the last Pfennig.
The two villages formally merged into Kiel in 1924, making all municipal Notgeld from this issuer obsolete within a few years of printing.
