Obverse description The obverse centres on an oval vignette enclosed by a laureate wreath border, bearing a portrait of Frederick the Great in tricorn hat and military uniform, set within a broad rural landscape vignette with ploughing figures and horses to the left and a group of figures to the right. A scroll banner across the upper field carries a Gothic-script motto in two parts, while an ornate ribbon cartouche below reads "Luftkurort Friedrichsbrunn" in Gothic lettering. The denomination "25 PF" appears in a dark oval cartouche at lower centre, flanked by the issue date and the facsimile signature of the Gemeindevorsteher, with a validity clause at lower left.

Comments

Friedrichsbrunn is a small spa village in the Harz mountains, and like hundreds of German municipalities in 1921, it issued its own small-denomination Notgeld when coin shortages made ordinary commerce difficult. The Kleingeldersatz notes from this period were overwhelmingly local in character — their primary purpose was functional, covering transactions too small for any available coinage.

The DeNG reference places this within a well-documented series. Collector interest in Harz-region Notgeld has historically been strong, partly due to the volume of regional tourism even in the early Weimar years.
