| Opmerkingen |
Seeth-Ekholt is a small rural commune in Schleswig-Holstein, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1921 places it among the thousands of German municipalities that stepped in to fill a chronic small-denomination coin shortage during the postwar inflation period. The Reichsbank could not keep pace with demand for low-value coinage, and local authorities — down to the village level — were legally permitted to issue temporary emergency currency.
Notes from communes this small were frequently printed in short runs and often bought up immediately by collectors rather than used in trade, which makes determining genuine circulation history difficult.
