Brehna is a small town in Saxony-Anhalt — population under 5,000 even in the early twentieth century — and its 1921 notgeld issue is exactly the kind of hyperinflation-era municipal scrip that proliferated across hundreds of German communities when the Reichsbank could not keep small-denomination coinage in circulation. H. F. Jütte of Leipzig was a commercial printer who handled notgeld contracts for numerous provincial towns during this period, which accounts for the competent but unremarkable production quality typical of the firm's municipal work.
Brehna was absorbed into the town of Sandersdorf-Brehna in 2010, so the issuing authority no longer exists as a legal entity.
