Stützerbach is a small glassmaking village in the Thuringian Forest, and its Notgeld issues reflect the hyperinflationary pressures of 1921 when municipalities across Germany printed their own emergency small change to compensate for the total disappearance of metal coinage. Max Bechstein — not the piano family, but a local designer active in Thuringian Notgeld production — contributed to several issues in the region during this period.
The print date of 30 April 1945 appearing in catalog records almost certainly reflects a documentation or typographical error; German municipal Notgeld of this denomination and type had ceased to be valid currency decades before that date.
