Leopoldshall was a small industrial municipality in Anhalt, built largely around the potash mining and chemical industry concentrated in the Staßfurt-Leopoldshall basin. By 1921 the town had already been administratively folded into neighboring Staßfurt, which makes this Magistrat issue something of a jurisdictional curiosity — the issuing authority on the note reflects a municipal identity that was actively disappearing at the time of printing.
Louis Koch of Halberstadt was a regional jobbing printer responsible for a significant volume of Anhalt and Saxony notgeld, rarely credited in the broader literature on emergency currency. The ".4a" variant designation in the DeNG reference indicates at least four distinct printings within this series, suggesting demand well beyond what a town of this size would typically generate — likely driven by collector traffic rather than commercial need.
