| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse is printed in orange, teal, and black on cream paper, enclosed within a decorative border of repeated geometric motifs. A diagonal teal band bearing the bold black inscription KREIS·SIMMERN traverses the note from lower left to upper right, dividing the field between an orange guilloche underprint and a small left-side vignette with the red numeral 25 above the word PFENNIG alongside a botanical spray of wheat and poppies. The issue text GÜLTIG IM KREISE SIMMERN, the date SIMMERN, den 1. März 1921, and the facsimile signature of the Landrat above his title DER VORSITZENDE DES KREIS-AUSSCHUSSES appear in the right field. |

| Opmerkingen |
Kreis Simmern's 1921 Pfennig notgeld belongs to the second wave of German emergency money — by this point the inflationary pressure that had begun during the war was accelerating hard, and small-denomination coinage had effectively disappeared from circulation. Districts, municipalities, and even individual merchants were printing their own fractional notes to fill the gap left by hoarded metal. L. Schwann of Düsseldorf was a prolific printer of this material, producing notgeld for dozens of Rhineland issuers during this period.
H. Schäpel's design credit is unusual to see explicitly named on a piece of this denomination and type.
