Opmerkingen

Gernrode is a small spa town in the eastern Harz, best known for the Stiftskirche St. Cyriakus — one of the most complete Ottonian churches surviving in Germany. Its municipal authority nonetheless found itself issuing emergency currency in 1921, a necessity driven not by wartime disruption but by the chronic small-coin shortage that plagued the early Weimar Republic as inflation began hollowing out the metal coinage.

Louis Koch of Halberstadt handled a considerable volume of Notgeld contracts for smaller Harz municipalities during this period, producing workmanlike regional issues on tight schedules.
