| Opmerkingen |
Alfeld an der Leine is a small town in Lower Saxony whose notgeld program was unusually well-documented for a municipality of its size. This 25 Pfennig piece is part of a series commissioned during the acute coin shortage that followed Germany's postwar economic dislocation — by 1921 the Reichsbank had long since lost the practical ability to keep small denomination coinage in circulation, forcing thousands of municipalities to print their own emergency money.
Gebrüder Jänecke in Hannover was a reputable commercial press with genuine security printing experience, which accounts for the watermark — an uncommon refinement at this denomination level, where most issuers cut costs wherever possible. Fritz Roediger's involvement places this firmly in the category of notgeld treated as a collectible artifact from the outset.
