Jeßnitz is a small industrial town on the Mulde river in Anhalt, and like hundreds of comparable municipalities it entered the Notgeld market in 1921 not out of genuine coin shortage — that crisis had largely passed — but because the collector trade had made emergency currency briefly profitable.
