Peine is an industrial town in Lower Saxony whose steelworks — the Peiner Walzwerk, later part of the Ilseder Hütte combine — dominated the local economy. This note was issued by the town magistracy during the early Weimar notgeld wave, when municipal and commercial bodies across Germany plugged the chronic small-change shortage left by wartime metal requisitioning and postwar hoarding of coins.
Gebrüder Parcus in Munich handled an enormous volume of notgeld contracts during this period and produced work of consistently higher technical quality than many regional printers pressed into similar service. The P11.2b suffix in the DeNG reference indicates a recognized variety within the series — likely a color, paper, or typographic variant rather than a reissue proper.
