| 表面の説明 | Black letterpress on pale red underprint bearing the repeated text 'ALTENKIRCHEN UND WALDBRÖL' across the entire field. At upper left, a heraldic vignette shows a rampant lion above a crowned shield with a standing figure, flanked by foliage branches; the denomination '25 PFENNIG' is set in bold type at upper centre-right within a dark rectangular panel. The central text panel carries the payment obligation in German Gothic script, with two manuscript signatures above the titles 'Landrat' and 'Regierungsrat', and a serial number printed in red vertically along the right margin. The lower border bears the inscription 'ALTENKIRCHEN-WALDBRÖL 1920.' in bold uppercase. |

Altenkirchen and Waldbröl were neighboring Kreise in the Westerwald region that issued this note jointly — an unusual cooperative arrangement between two separate local treasury offices rather than a single municipal authority. Joint-issue Notgeld at the Kreis level is far less common than town or city issues, which makes the dual-issuer designation here worth noting.
Carl Schleicher & Schüll, the Düren papermaker turned printer, supplied a considerable volume of Notgeld during 1920–1921, largely because their existing paper manufacturing infrastructure gave them a natural edge in short-run emergency currency production.
