Blankenburg am Harz issued this Notgeld note in the chaotic early Weimar period, when hundreds of German municipalities were printing their own small-denomination scrip to address the severe shortage of fractional coinage. Louis Koch was a Halberstadt commercial printer — not a security printing house — which is exactly what you'd expect from a town of Blankenburg's modest scale.
