Opmerkingen

Idstein's 1920 Notgeld issue belongs to the sprawling wave of municipal emergency coinage that followed Germany's post-WWI coin shortage — the Reichsbank's metal supplies had been largely consumed by the war effort, leaving small change chronically scarce. Towns across the Rhineland and Nassau issued their own scrip to keep local commerce moving, with varying degrees of official tolerance from Berlin.

The watermarked paper on this piece is worth noting — many Kleingeldscheine of this denomination and period used plain stock, so the security feature suggests the Idstein Magistrat went to some expense in sourcing their paper.
