At centre, the Hanau municipal coat of arms — a shield bearing a swan above a chevron — is set within an ornate foliate vignette flanked by two cartouches each bearing the denomination numeral '25' with the legend 'Pfennig' below, all framed by a rope-style border. Below the vignette appears a serial number line followed by a two-line validity clause in Gothic script, the date 'Hanau, den 12. August 1920', the issuing authority 'Der Magistrat', and a manuscript signature.
