Kummerfeld is a small village in Holstein, north of Hamburg, and its decision to issue notgeld was purely practical — the wartime and immediate postwar coinage shortage left even tiny municipalities scrambling for small change. Konrad Hanf was a Hamburg-based commercial printer who handled notgeld contracts for numerous Schleswig-Holstein communities during this period, producing functional rather than decorative work.
Kummerfeld's issue is among the more obscure of the regional pieces. No fancy series, no collector-targeted reissue.
