| 表面の説明 | The national arms of the Dominican Republic occupy the central field, featuring the quartered shield with a Bible, cross, and crossed flags and lances, flanked by a laurel branch to the left and a palm branch to the right, all surmounted by a ribbon inscribed DIOS PATRIA LIBERTAD and supported by a scroll bearing REPUBLICA DOMINICANA. The curved legend PERIODO PRESIDENCIAL ANTONIO GUZMAN arcs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 25 PESOS appears in the lower field below the arms. Fine silver specifications PLATA FINA 60.13 GRS and LEY .925 are inscribed in the lower left and right fields respectively. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

John Paul II's visit to the Dominican Republic in January 1979 was historically significant as the first stop on his first papal foreign trip — just weeks after his October 1978 election. The country was chosen partly because Santo Domingo was hosting the Third General Conference of the Latin American Episcopate (CELAM), giving the visit both symbolic and institutional weight beyond a simple pastoral call.
At 65 grams of sterling silver, this is among the heaviest commemoratives the Banco Central issued in this period. The dies were produced under tight schedule pressure to coincide with the visit itself.
