| Opmerkingen |
El Banco Español de la Habana was the sole note-issuing bank in Cuba during this period, operating under a royal charter granted by the Spanish Crown in 1856. By 1867–68, the bank was navigating severe fiscal pressure: sugar prices were volatile, the colonial treasury was chronically underfunded, and the Ten Years' War — the first major Cuban independence conflict — would break out in October 1868, less than a year after these notes were issued.
Circulation effectively collapsed in the war's early months. Notes of this series were largely withdrawn, making survivors scarce regardless of condition. The bank itself was restructured into the Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba in 1881.
