Tamarite de Litera, a small town in the Aragonese province of Huesca, came under anarchist-collectivist control in the early weeks of the Spanish Civil War. Like dozens of similarly administered villages across Aragon, it issued its own local currency — not as a banking instrument, but as a practical necessity once conventional money supplies broke down and the collectivized economy required a medium of exchange that outside notes could not reliably serve.
These colectividad notes were typically produced by whatever printing resources existed locally, which is why card stock and improvised formats are the rule rather than the exception. The entire issue was functionally obsolete within months, as CNT-controlled territory contracted and the Francoist advance rendered them worthless.
