Reverse description Central field depicts a steam passenger vessel underway on stylized open seas, with the distinctive volcanic peak of the island of Tristan da Cunha rising prominently in the background. In the foreground, a seabird — characteristic of the South Atlantic — is shown in flight above the waves, adding naturalistic detail to the composition. The issuer name TRISTAN DA CUNHA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination TWENTY FIVE PENCE is inscribed along the lower periphery. The overall design evokes the island's remote maritime character.

Additional information

Tristan da Cunha's first-ever commemorative coin issue, struck for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. The island had no indigenous coinage tradition whatsoever — its economy ran almost entirely on barter and British naval supply until well into the twentieth century. KM#1a is the silver version; a cupro-nickel counterpart was issued simultaneously for actual use on the island, while this piece was produced exclusively for collectors through the Crown Agents.
