| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, crowned and draped, wearing a pearl necklace and drop earring. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, with fine detail in the hair and crown. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left rim and ST. HELENA along the right rim, both in raised Latin characters. The date 2013 appears in the lower exergue. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the coin. |

Saint Helena issued this piece to mark the bicentennial window around Napoleon's death on the island in 1821 — he died there in exile after the British government refused repeated requests to improve his living conditions at Longwood House, where damp and rats were persistent complaints. The island remains the only territory with a direct custodial claim to his place of death.
