Bradbury Wilkinson printed for colonial and overseas banking clients throughout the mid-twentieth century, and this 1958 issue for Banco Nacional Ultramarino sits within a broader Macao series that used the same New Malden facility handling much of Britain's own currency production at the time. The 25 pataca denomination was an awkward middle value — Macao's gambling economy and its heavy Hong Kong dollar crossover meant that mid-range denominations saw uneven use, and surviving circulated examples often show wear concentrated at the folds rather than the edges.
Pick 46 is among the scarcer denominations of the BNU Macao run from this period.
