Carl XV's reign saw Sweden navigate the transition to a decimal monetary system, culminating in the country's 1873 entry into the Scandinavian Monetary Union alongside Denmark. These pieces, struck across nearly a decade, predate that union and were subsequently demonetized when the new unified coinage standards took effect — which explains why survivors in circulated grades are far more common than uncirculated examples that might have been set aside.
