| Additional information |
Bhutan's 1984 Olympic commemorative series was produced for the Los Angeles Games and issued under license through a foreign coin producer — a common arrangement for small Himalayan kingdoms looking to generate hard currency revenue without straining domestic mint capacity. Bhutan had no functioning national mint at the time, and these pieces were struck abroad for collector sale rather than domestic circulation.
The shot put issue is one of several denominations in the series covering individual athletic disciplines. None saw meaningful use as currency.
