Reverse description The reverse features a devotional image of the Virgin Mary, patroness of Genoa, depicted seated three-quarter length upon billowing clouds, holding the Christ Child to her right side; the Madonna is crowned with a nimbus of eight stars arranged in an arc above her head, and holds a sceptre in her left hand. The Christ Child, nude, is shown facing outward with right arm raised in blessing. The Latin legend is divided across the upper field, with the date appearing vertically at right. The composition is rendered in an expressive late Baroque manner, filling the field.
