| Obverse description | Central depiction of the historic Malé Friday Mosque minaret (Munnaaru), rendered in a stylized architectural manner with horizontal banding, set against a radiate field suggesting sunrays. Palm trees appear to the left and a rooftop structure to the right of the minaret. A decorative rope and reef knot motif frames the lower portion of the design within the coin's inner circle. The date appears in both Western numerals (1996) to the upper left and Arabic-Indic numerals (١٤١٦) to the upper right. The mintmark 'MMA' (Maldives Monetary Authority) is inscribed below the knot at the base. |
