Ried im Traunkreis is a small Upper Austrian municipality, and this 25 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Notgeld that Austrian communes printed between 1919 and 1922 to address the chronic small-change shortage left by the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system. L. Haase of Linz was a regional commercial printer responsible for a significant number of these Upper Austrian municipal issues — competent jobbing work, not fine-note printing.
The JPR083 series for this commune is modest in scope. Condition matters more than usual here: municipal Notgeld of this type was handled heavily in local trade before being superseded.
