Sleper's design for this note marked a deliberate shift in De Nederlandsche Bank's postwar visual policy — away from the allegorical figures that had dominated Dutch banknote art through the 1930s and toward a more austere, architecturally grounded aesthetic. The "King Solomon" nickname derives from the central vignette, a reference that stuck firmly enough in common usage to displace the official designation entirely.

Enschedé had printed Dutch banknotes continuously since the nineteenth century, and their Haarlem facility produced this series under the tight paper-allocation conditions that still characterized Dutch industrial output in the late 1940s. The note circulated alongside the postwar reconstruction economy well into the 1950s.
