Comments

The Centrale Bank van Suriname leaned heavily on Thomas De La Rue throughout the 1980s, a period when Suriname's economy was under serious strain following the 1982 December Murders — the extrajudicial killing of fifteen prominent citizens by the Bouterse military regime — which triggered the suspension of Dutch development aid and sent the guilder into a prolonged crisis. Notes printed in this window were circulating into an economy increasingly dependent on the parallel market.

The watermark is the sole security feature, a notably sparse specification for De La Rue by their own standards at the time.
