The Bank van de Nederlandse Antillen was established in 1962 to replace the Muntregeling Nederlandse Antillen, giving the island group its own central issuing authority separate from the Netherlands proper. This note belongs to the inaugural series under that new institution — P#3 is among the first issues bearing the bank's name.
Enschedé had printed Netherlands Antillean currency for years before this, and the continuity of printer through the institutional transition is deliberate. The Haarlem firm's intaglio work on Caribbean colonial and post-colonial issues from this period is notably consistent in quality.
