Comments

De Curaçaosche Bank was the sole issuing authority for the Netherlands Antilles until the Centrale Bank van de Nederlandse Antillen absorbed its functions in 1962. This series, running from 1954 to 1960, was produced during a period when Curaçao's economy was heavily anchored to the Shell refinery at Emmastad — one of the largest in the world at the time — which drove real demand for higher denominations in daily commercial transactions.

Joh. Enschedé en Zonen printed banknotes for dozens of Dutch colonial and post-colonial territories, and the security printing quality on this series is characteristic of their postwar work: intaglio face, tight guilloche, and serial numbering with consistent ink weight. The 25 Gulden is the second-highest denomination in Pick's listing for this issuer.
